Introducing the fifth finalist for Home of the Year 2019 – A new apartment building in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter that celebrates progressive design
Project: Wynyard Central
Location: Wynyard Quarter, Auckland
So far, the finalists in Home of the Year 2019 have spanned across the country ranging from a small concrete retreat in Queenstown to an impressive getaway in Arrowtown plus a minimal Wellington home and a bold Auckland house, that both express the idea of family living quite differently.
The next finalist in Home of the Year 2019 is one of two apartment buildings that made this year’s shortlist. Judges Simon Farrell-Green, Lance and Nicola Herbst (winners in 2016 and 2018), and Paraguay’s Gloria Cabral thought Patrick Clifford’s team at Architectus has shown us what good apartment living in Auckland can look like.
Designed for a variety of occupants, with a specific focus on families and child-friendly amenities, Wynyard Central has 115 apartments across three buildings – a tall tower, terrace housing and a smaller apartment block. The celebration of public spaces and sustainability sit front and centre of this progressive design.
Watch the video above to take a tour and hear what the judges loved about this house from HOME editor Simon Farrell-Green.
