6 inspiring kitchen trends you need to know about in 2018

The kitchen design forecast for 2018 is a little different than those in recent years, with a mix of trends that focus on practicality as well as style.

From daring new design ideas to rethought trend favourites, this year’s kitchens are adapting to accommodate the evolving way homeowners and, in particular, families are using the space.

Here, the six trends that will continue to dominate kitchens in 2018.

Back to black:

Kitchen colour palettes are a lot darker and more mysterious than previous years. In 2018, kitchens are moving away from brighter and lighter interiors in favour of a much moodier style. Black cabinetry and floor tiles give the heart of the home a polished and contemporary feel. For a subtle take on the trend, try investing in black appliances.

Hardworking island:

While kitchen islands are certainly not new, they’re becoming bigger and now incorporate more features such as a sink, shelves and breakfast bar. These multi-use islands are ideal for busy family homes, where the action always seems to gravitate toward the heart of the home.

Handles 2.0:

Push-to-close drawers and cupboards resulted in san-handle kitchens in recent year but now they’re back on-trend with gold accents and oversized designs set to rule this year. Replacing simple stainless-steel handles with beautiful, ornate versions can give a space instant character.

Matte surfaces:

Matte Black is really popular for bench tops and cabinetry thanks to its ability to create a sense of luxury and flexibility to compliment any kitchen theme.

Open shelving:

Simple but effective, open shelving allows you to add a touch of your own personality or store extra ingredients. It’s also comes with a level of accountability – with nowhere to hide mess, keeping the space tidy is a must!

Pendant lighting:

This not-so-new trend has proven itself a kitchen mainstay. An easy and affordable way to update a space, pendant lighting that’s as practical as it is beautiful. Statement fittings can establish a room’s mood and help to zone kitchens that are open-plan. This year, it’s all about multiples; opt for a style that complements your hardware.
