Article by Simply You

Rust is trending this season. Add a touch of aged charm to your patio or garden with Resene’s exciting new rust effect paint.

Earthy and naturalistic, the rustic look of weathered steel adds a welcoming feeling – and now it’s easier than ever to achieve this rich, storied look thanks to Resene’s new FX Faux Rust Effect.

Evocative of Tuscan patios and English country gardens, rust is one of the most appealing new trends this season.

With more depth than classic terracotta, and more warmth than metal or stone, a faux rust effect coating gives your outdoor area an appealingly weathered, enduring look and adds a rich splash of colour. It also helps lend a welcome uniformity to potted plants, and goes fantastically well with the lush greens of your garden.

Using rust effect paint:

For terracotta pots, begin with a protective coat of Resene Aquapel  & Terracotta Sealer for best results. Two layers each of FX Faux Rust Effect basecoat and FX Faux Rust Effect Activator will create a rich weathered effect, with adaptable colour and intensity.

Romantic and rustic,

the rich hues and complex look of weathered steel are perfect for a feature wall.

Pair your rust effect paint with forest green

  • The natural counterpoint to rust, forest green provides a contrasting yet calming effect and enhances the look of the faux-rust finish.
  • Using green shades on fences and other elements of your outdoor area makes plants and vegetation truly pop, creating a vibrant and lush effect that embraces the hues of nature.
  • Consider low-sheen paint, such as Resene Lumbersider.
  • A lighter tone of green is perfect for painting outdoor pieces to complement nature.
