Auckland’s Orakei Bay Village is the latest hotspot to visit for beautiful homeware, speciality flowers and delicious food
Why you need to visit Orakei Bay Village if you love interiors
A vacant waterfront warehouse and former gin distillery has been transformed into Auckland’s newest retail and hospo hub. Alongside Kings Plant Barn and specialty grocery store Farro Fresh, Orakei Bay Village houses a number of boutiques, eateries and bars, plus a florist, art gallery and more. Take a look at some of our favourite spaces.
Alex and Corban
Alex and Corban Walls’ second store is small but sweet, packed with luxe homeware, furniture and artworks from around the world. As well as the pair’s own line of linen bedding, you’ll find throws, wall hangings, tableware, books, body products and more. This clever husband-and-wife duo won The Block NZ in 2014 and have continued to showcase their unique style through their stores.
Head to Father Rabbit for simple, stylish, vintage-inspired wares. Claudia Zinzan and Nick Hutchinson’s third store is a large, dreamy space full of household essentials, from covetable crockery to stylish linens. There’s also artisan food items, cookbooks and candles galore – it’s basically a homeowner’s (or gift giver’s) paradise.
The second outpost of Eden Kersten’s floristry business The Botanist is large, light and airy – a refreshing contrast to her base at Auckland’s City Works Depot. Eden splits her time between the two locations where she creates bespoke arrangements for customers, events and weddings.
This all-day cafe, bar and eatery is a collaboration between chef Mikey Newlands, his sommelier partner Amanda Rogers and Espresso Workshop’s Andrew Smart. Here you can feast on drunken chicken salad, breakfast ramen and octopus carpaccio, or order coffee brewed any way you like. Enjoy a seat outside or perch at the majestic pink and bronze bar.
So Beau Baby
This is the place to go for designer childrenswear, furniture, bedlinen, accessories, art and more. Founder Rebecca Bradley stocks “brands whose focus is on quality, style and ethical production”. We love the Tiba + Marl baby-change bags and clutches that are gorgeous as well as useful.
