Kitchen profile: Marble and metallic

Article by Simply You

Marble-detail
No longer just a place to prepare meals, the kitchen has become an extra living space – and the latest design trends reflect its new role.

Marble detail
Island benches are the natural choice when it comes to incorporating marble into your kitchen, while limestone and polished concrete are the hard-working cousins of this sleek surface trend. Alternatively, use marble as a splashback with frosted glass cabinets or stainless steel to take this look from classic to cutting edge.
Expert advice: Marble and limestone are alkaline-based stones and can be dissolved by acids in some cleaning products and common foods, such as lemon juice, wine and soft drinks. Wipe up any spillages quickly with warm, soapy water and avoid using abrasive cleaners, which can scratch the surface.

Mixed metals
Gold, copper and bronze are the metals of choice for giving your kitchen a gleaming finish this season. Whether used in tapware, lighting, tiles or accessories, a metallic sheen adds an instant touch of decadence to an otherwise neutral-toned kitchen.
