Step inside Alex and Corban’s cosy Christmas style

With no room for a traditional Christmas tree, Alex came up with this delightful festive scheme that’s perfect for a small space

Step inside Alex and Corban’s cosy Christmas style

I love Christmas! I always have. When I was younger, we’d get to the first week of October and I’d start planning how I was going to decorate my bedroom for Christmas! Things haven’t really changed and I’m just as eager to prepare for the festivities – but this year I was faced with a dilemma over space. We are currently living in a small unit which doesn’t allow for a large Christmas tree set-up, so I have found a few alternative and fun ways to bring plenty of festive flair to a living area without taking up too much room.

A wall painted in a sophisticated and rich dark grey (Dulux ‘Rawene’) provides a fantastic backing for my display of Christmas decorations; the surprisingly warm colour supplies that cosy, festive feeling and makes the green, red and white stand out beautifully.

With no floor space for a big tree, I strung an artificial cedar garland along the wall and hung my tree decorations on this instead. It’s a simple yet striking display that would also work well in an entryway or dining area – and I love the fact that I can reuse the garland in all sorts of ways all year round.

To get our Christmas tree fix, we have this gorgeous mini version in a cloth-wrapped pot, which usually sits on the console but would look equally cute on a coffee table or entertainment unit. It only needs a bell garland or a few small baubles and fairy lights and it’s done.

A little thought to colour co-ordination ties the scheme together. I matched our DIY santa sacks to the sofa cushions for a nice cohesive colour story – a super-easy way to get the colours right within your chosen Christmas scheme. The sacks are simply pillowcases stuffed with goodies and tied up with rope and homemade woollen tassels.

Well, this is a sneak peek of what our Christmas will look like. Austen is getting a lot bigger now and is ready to tear those presents open! From our family to yours, we wish you all a very merry Christmas.
