Whether it’s for during the day or for an after-sun set-up, Alex Walls shows us how to turn a sparse patio into a summer entertaining spot
There’s no need to trek for miles to find a tranquil spot at the beach or park when you can create a cosy and comfortable picnic possie in your own backyard (with all the amenities just steps away!). With everything you need to camp out for the day, this inviting outdoor retreat is just the place for a cool cocktail and a lazy afternoon of R&R.
In the summer, our family love to be outdoors from morning until the sun goes down. The boys will busy themselves playing or working around the house while I keep watch from my comfy throne in the shade of our fringed Hula umbrella.
If you choose a large enough tablecloth for your snacks and lunchtime goodies it can also double as a picnic blanket for all the family. I actually used a linen sheet in my favourite colour pop of terracotta and teamed it with a large, olive-toned ottoman which provides a handy place to rest a fruit platter or tray of cold drinks as well as being a lovely seat.
With friends often coming over, we love to have some great outdoor lighting sorted for when the rays fade but we’re not quite ready to move inside, and these battery-operated bamboo lanterns are a favourite – simple, stylish and practical.
With a comfy, low chair, some plain cushions in earthy, complementary colours and simple serveware finishing the look, I’m all set for some summer relaxation. Hope you are too!
