Before

We bought our house in 2015 and the laundry was a 1970s masterpiece in salmon pink.

The brief

We wanted a laundry that utilised the space well, functioned properly and was somewhere you didn’t mind being!

How long did the project take?
Two months

How did you decide on your colour palette and materials?
We made the decision early on that with any renovations we would try to be consistent with the colour palette – we are sticking to off-white and shades of grey.

Any tips?
There is lots of stuff that suits being stored in the laundry so it’s important to think about how best to do this. Our angled sink has received lots of great feedback as it’s a bit different, and the spray mixer is really handy.

What flooring did you choose?
We stuck with tiles. We weren’t sure how easy it was going to be to replace the existing terracotta tiles, but our tiler was fantastic and gave us great advice. He did a great job removing them and the new ones are a massive improvement.

Benchtop?
We went with a laminate top – initially I wanted stone as I planned to have that in the kitchen and wanted it all to match. We then realised that stone was a lot of money for an area that isn’t as hard-working as a kitchen and isn’t seen as much, and that laminate would give us the same look but for a lot less.
