3 perfect colour palettes for a mixed materials room

Article by Homes to Love

With ANZ, Homes to Love is exploring the ways we live now, under the theme of ‘Mixed Materials’ – and how this trend allows us to live and build today.

The task of deciding which materials to use in a home can be a daunting one. Our advice is to create a colour palette and start from there. Here are three of our favourite options for using mixed materials in different areas of a home.

Keep the colour palette simple in a bathroom. Especially in a particularly small one like this, where greys and whites with wood accents have worked well. Use a combination of two tiles in different textures and sizes to create interest like these concrete look tiles and these grey hexagon tiles. The cabinet is a custom built unit made from oak.

Our choice for the kitchen is another paired-back colour palette, this time it’s all about contrasting textures. Try staining strand board in black for the cabinetry for a matte look, contrasted with glass dome pendants. To add in more natural tones, this kitchen has bona flooring

Get a little more daring in larger spaces of the home. We love the contrast of the earthy grey schist-look tiles above the fire place with the clean black multigroove panels behind the dining table. The bookshelf is custom built from lacquered plywood.
