Patchwork Architecture

Conceptualised in 2011 by owners Ben Mitchell-Anyon and Sally Ogle Patchwork Architecture‘s flagship project was their design and build of the DogBox. Since then, the architectural duo have been involved in a number of exciting and inventive designs, with a particular focus on practical knowledge involved in the craft of designing and building.

Although the practices accolades are numerous, particularly relevant is their recent design of New Zealand’s best small home. With a growing interest in condensed housing, their infill house is a clever way of utilising smaller sites within our cities. It’s also part of an evolution of how New Zealanders think about their houses – bigger isn’t necessarily better – smart design means smaller spaces can be highly functional. The result is a stunning inner-city home on a steep Wellington site, showing that a small home is not an impediment to grandeur.
