12 comfortable chairs you’ll love in your dining area

  • Size and spacing
Allow at least 90cm between the dining table and any walls or furniture to allow seats to slide out easily. Leave about 60cm between chairs to avoid bumping elbows. Lights should be hung 60-80cm from the table surface.
  • Sticky fingers
If you have children in your family, fabric dining chairs are going to get filthy. Choose a wipeable surface like wood or plastic and treat yourself to a gorgeous velvet seat once they’ve reached voting age.
  • Bench it
Bench seats are fun, informal and keep things versatile at the dining table. However, make sure you have traditional chairs available for diners who need a bit of back support.
  • Mix or match?
These days anything goes when it comes to matching your dining chairs. Mix up colours, styles and materials or keep them all the same – the choice is yours. Just make sure the arrangement works with the rest of your decor.
