How to use crystals to create a striking and unique children’s bedroom

This space is not for the faint-hearted, with punchy blue walls and gem-print bedlinen, but the overall effect is striking and unique, and would be great for kids who dare to be different.

The key feature of this room is the bed, which is dressed in crystal-patterned bedding and a mix of pillowcases and cushions in an array of fabrics, colours and textures. This collection of linen goodies creates interest on the bed and invites relaxation. As the bedlinen features a busy pattern, we’ve avoided adding any more and instead used colours from the duvet on plain cushions and throws. The other decor objects in this room were chosen to complement the scheme rather than compete with it.

The accent colour here is deep indigo blue. When adding an accent colour to a room, remember to repeat this colour three times for the room to be balanced. Ideally this colour should be positioned at three different heights – we have blue on the walls, on the round cushion and in the throw on the bed.

Vertical storage on walls is often overlooked in kids’ rooms so make the most of blank walls by adding some hooks or a shelf. These fun Patricia Urquiola for Kartell wall hooks are great for holding necklaces – place them close to the bed for easy jewellery removal.
