Decorating a girl’s room in geometric shapes

A New Plymouth couple paint a room in shades of pink that are fit for a princess

At a glance

Heidi and Kris Herbert purchased their 2.8-hectare lifestyle block in New Plymouth last August, providing more space for their two children, Bren, 3, and Ivy, 2. The four-bedroom home was in dire need of a facelift, and the first room to get the full treatment was Ivy’s room. “Ivy’s favourite colour is pink, so I found Resene ‘Sakura’ on the ‘fashion colour inspiration’ tab on Resene’s website,” Heidi explains. “I wanted to add something to break up the pink so I looked at different ideas on the internet and then taped up the wall with masking tape, dividing it into four segments, and chose three shades of grey to finish the room.” Heidi has styled the room with two 1950s Carlotta Edwards ballet prints along with some of Ivy’s favourite toys and other vintage finds. “Ivy absolutely loves it,” she says of the soft and feminine bedroom. Fit for a princess!
