More and more bathrooms are becoming sanctuaries in the home with a spa-like trend emerging, from pedi-spas to massage shower jets and twin vanities. Marianna Glucina, owner of About Face spas in Auckland, used the architect who fits out her spas to create the same sense of wellbeing in her personal bathrooms. “To spa means to surround oneself with the element of water, so that is essential when selecting fittings, tapware and tiles,” she says. Glucina’s spa bathroom (pictured left) certainly brings about that feeling of relaxation. “We chose the tiles from Heritage Tiles in three grey colour variations, square rain shower heads and, of course, a freestanding spa bath, which evokes that sense of luxury.”

A chance of showers
Barriers are being broken down in bathrooms, where boxy cubicles and freestanding furniture are being replaced with wet rooms. The new open-plan concept sees wall-to-wall tiling, uninterrupted lines, and showers that are either entirely open or separated by just a glass screen.
