Steal their style: A Wellington home gets a makeover with a colourful twist

Wellington-born Pip and Brit Will met in Canada and did everything from working at ski resorts to backpacking across India. But when they had their first child, they knew it was time to get onto the property ladder.

After living in modest do-up in Tawa, Wellington they set their sights on a four-bedroom, 190-square-metre house in Broadmeadows, nearer to the city centre. The layout and views were a winning combination but the tired, 1970s home was in desperate need of an overhaul.

Will, a self-employed licensed builder and tiler, was able to put his skills to good use opening up the space between the kitchen, living and dining areas, building a new deck and building the stunning Scandinavian inspired bathroom.

Thanks to Pip’s creative eye for design everything from the dining room table to the lampshades and chairs were upcycled and given a bright, new look.  In fact, there isn’t much of this house that hasn’t been touched by Pip’s artistic flair.

Check out the video and see how you can steal their winning style.

DIY-table

Do it yourself:

1 Buy an old kitchen table.
2 Remove table top.
3 Spray-paint legs with enamel paint. When dry, spray with polyurethane to protect them.
4 Cover legs and table top with laminated fabric (Pip got hers from Etsy), stretching it and stapling it on the underside.
5 Reassemble table.
