The simplest motifs can make the most effective prints, and Burrow and Be’s Catherine Melo has capitalised on this with her super cute range of parent-friendly prints. Paper planes, little houses, rain clouds and birds all feature on blankets, pillowcases and handy storage sacks for kids (or adults).

“My biggest inspiration comes from my children Leandro, 7, and Isabel, 3, but also from shapes and colours that I love. I write little stories that inspire my designs about secret clubhouses, boring rainy days and learning new things,” says Catherine.

The Auckland-based designer started the brand after leaving a career in graphic design, including a three-year stint as a screenprinter. “I hit a time in my life where I was capable enough to venture out on my own and do what I love for myself rather than for someone else,” she says, “with my love of interiors combined with my knowledge of graphic design and screen printing, Burrow and Be was a natural progression.”

As its name suggests, Burrow and Be’s products encourage the act of burrowing into your space and just being, whether that’s being “inspired, tired, or wild, just be yourself”, encourages Catherine. Next in the pipeline is a range of bedlinen from bassinet to single size in sheets and duvet covers. Watch this space!
