Mike and his father Eric built the pizza oven which features a wood-storage zone and a food preparation area.
The outdoor shower is handy after a swim at the beach.
Mike and Carolin Robinson, seen here with their baby Fin, fell for the dramatic setting of this beachside home in Piha, west of Auckland.
Nautical touches in Fin’s bedroom tie in with the home’s past life as a bach.
The couple found the caravan in Christchurch and drove it up north. Its cosy caravan interior with homely soft furnishings makes it a comfortable place to stay.
The kitchen feels open and airy and leads out onto an expansive deck. The vintage dining table and chairs were purchased from the previous owners.
Cool blues, soft greys and fresh whites feature in the main bedroom and are the ideal palette for a seaside home.
Mike relaxes in the hot tub.
The renovated bathroom is a far cry from its original dated, cluttered state.
The lounge embraces mid-century luxe with sheepskins, a shag-pile rug, a vintage sideboard and antique chairs.
An original missile poster from a Berlin vintage shop takes pride of place in the lounge, adding an interesting counterpoint to the room’s luxe feel.
Mike and Carolin wanted a sustainable renewable product on their floor so chose bamboo floorboards.
A vintage baker’s trolley is used as shelving.
The studio opens out onto a courtyard.
