Love Ellen DeGeneres? Who doesn’t! Not only is she hilarious, generous and arguably the kindest person on the planet, she also has an amazing eye for interior design.
She has renovated and decorated her way through her impressive portfolio of homes with such prowess that she released her own book, Home, which showcases her amazing work on the breathtaking properties she owns or has owned.
This sprawling Santa Barbra Estate is one of the homes featured in Ellen’s book and for good reason! The Tuscan-style mansion, known as The Villa, is located in the suburb of Montecito, a high-profile area also home to Oprah Winfrey, Al Gore and Rob Lowe.
The much-loved TV host and her wife Portia DeRossi, purchased the home in 2012 for a reported $26.5 million, along with the two neighbouring properties, with plans to turn it into the sprawling 17-acre estate it is now. The 10,000-square-foot home was designed and built in the 1930s by American architect Wallace Frost.
Ellen has employed her own decorative touch since purchasing it, updating the enchanting old-world home with contemporary furniture and finishes and creating indoor/outdoor living spaces, as well as separate living quarter named Jordan Hall.
“The house is always surprising. It reveals itself to you in new ways every day,” Ellen told Sotheby’s. “It’s not overly manicured or tidy. It’s not overly precious or perfect. And it’s a home that manages to be both spacious and cozy at once.”
“The house truly feels like it was built out of the landscape, rather than plopped on a plot. It feels ancient, like it’s been there forever. Like that hill was never without the house. This is a home that honors nature, and I love that,” she said.
