How to create child-friendly spaces in your home
The good news is, you don’t need to compromise style to create a child friendly space. A high-traffic space for the kids needs to be safe and fun to look at, as well as a comfortable zone for both children and their parents.
Wow with wallpaper
Wallpapers are a quick and simple way to style a child’s bedroom or playroom. Choose one with a stylish print or design, and little else is required to decorate a space. Up the fun factor by and bring your child in on the action.
Ask them what colours they’d love splashed across their walls. Remember, you’re not limited to traditional pinks and blues. If your child loves canary yellow crayons, think about incorporating that hue into the space.
Top Tip:
- Not a fan of wallpaper? Decorate the room with framed paintings of your child’s work. Ensure the frames are out of reach but easily viewable.
- To really get in touch with your imaginative side, ditch the idea of frames and peg paintings on strings across one section of the wall. This is a great way to boost confidence and creativity.
Safety first for storage
Prevent trips and falls by creating storage spaces that will make sure your living area is safe, neat and always ready for those last-minute play dates.
Our advice? Upcycle old jars and baskets, and decorate them with a coat of paint and a little sparkle. Spice up the storage space by sticking with a theme, such as nautical, jungle or farm. This will make cleaning up a lot more fun for your child and allow you to teach them organisation skills from a young age.
Get creative with carpet
Soft carpets can ease trips and falls, and they also add a comfortable, homely vibe to a space. Opt for a durable and inexpensive carpet but air it out before installation and be sure to clean it regularly to prevent dust build-up.
If carpets are not a viable option for whatever reason, try finding a rug with fun colours or pictures from your child’s favourite movie or book.
