Kid’s bedroom ideas: How to create a room with a boho vibe

If you aren’t sure where to start when designing your child’s room and feel overwhelmed by the choices on offer, start by having a chat with them about the colours they like or a theme they might want to include. Keep storage in mind and think about a scheme that could see them through to their teenage years.

It helps to choose one item as a foundation piece. This could be a cushion, rug, art print or duvet cover. Then it’s just a matter of pulling furniture and furnishings together that work with that item. See our quick tips on how to create a bright and boho inspired kids room and watch our video with Shelley Ferguson to help you dream up your own creative kid’s-room design.

Bright and boho tips

  • Create a relaxed vibe in your child’s room with this colourful boho-inspired room. With a neutral base of off-white walls and floors, the contents of this room really make an impact.
  • The cane decor adds warmth while the mismatched bedding, with its mixture of patterns and textures, helps bring this room to life.
  • Instead of a framed print, why not make an on-trend wall hanging? They are so easy to do and are a great way to add your own style to the room. Simply cut long lengths of wool and loop over a hanger (we used an old cane bag handle but a piece of dowel would also work).
  • If space allows, add a comfy occasional chair to provide a good spot for reading, listening to music or going online. A soft, cosy rug is a great way to tie the colour scheme together.
