Tiles
The floor tiles in this bathroom have a soft pattern running through them, which means they will be much more forgiving and not show marks as easily as solid coloured tiles. The black subway wall tiles look great and won’t compete with the pattern of the floor tiles.
Tapware
When it comes to tapware, using one style throughout the bathroom is more common. However, mixing modern and classic tapware can look equally as stunning. Here we mix modern black tapware with a classic chrome bath tap.

Basin and bath
A wall-hung basin creates an illusion of more space – if space is tight – and storage isn’t key. Nothing says relax like a big freestanding bath that will be loved by both adults and kids.
Lighting
A single bulb pendant light is a great modern touch and looks fantastic teamed with recessed lighting. It can also create a wow factor in your space. Pendant lighting can also be replaced easily when tastes change, which is a bonus.

Vanessa’s styling tips
When styling your bathroom, consider bringing texture into the space. A wooden stool, wicker baskets and a textured floor mat will help soften the hard surfaces in the bathroom. Don’t forget to add a touch of greenery too.
Small-space ideas
If you’re planning to create a darker-looking room, remember that they tend to work best when you have plenty of space. If space is tight, a darker room will appear even smaller, so keep this in mind! If the design of your existing bathroom works well in terms of functionality, you can keep costs down during a renovation by keeping the existing plumbing in the same place and simply update with new products.

Bring a hint of warmth to the bathroom with this wooden-framed mirror that’s ideal for softening up a space.
- Cut timber to length.
- Cut a mitre (45˚) on one of the two pieces of timber.
- Glue the frame together using PVA and biscuits.
- Oil the frame. Remove any excess oil with a rag.
- Place mirror in frame and secure using push pins.
